Super Sad True Love Story by Gary ShteyngartMy rating: 2 of 5 stars
I'm a bit ambivalent about this book. On the one hand, it was utterly believable--the US economy is collapsing, Asian countries are on the ascendant, people are looking for ways to cheat death, everyone does everything through their smart phones--in a horrifying kind of way. On the other hand, it was utterly believable . . . in a horrifying kind of way. I see the potential for this society quite strongly in our own.
Also, I had a real problem with the characters. All of them. I didn't have a touchstone in any of them and couldn't stand any of them, especially the two main characters.
Ultimately, I decided not to finish the book because I was plowing through it rather than enjoying it, and life's too short not to enjoy your reading material.
