Book Review: The Stubborn Dead by Natasha Hoar

The Stubborn DeadThe Stubborn Dead by Natasha Hoar

Carina Press provided me with a free copy of this book for review purposes.

When rescue medium Rachel Miller is called in to take care of a wraith, she finds herself mixed up in intrigues and an attempt on her life, faced with a wraith who defies everything she knows about the spirit world.

The Stubborn Dead was a fast-paced, interesting novella that I really wish had been a novel instead. There's so much going on but it's crammed into about 20,000 words. The length of the story cut down on the depth; there's so much backstory and worldbuilding here that we never get to see.

The novella read like a prequel or quick introduction to a world, and I hope that in the future Hoar produces longer pieces in this same world. Preferably dealing with the aftermath of this case and the responsibility Rachel takes on at the end of it.
