Book Review: Grave Secret (Spoilers)

I enjoy this series, despite my slight squiffiness with the relationship between the two main characters. This was another good addition to the series, wrapping up several minor storylines that have run through the first three books, namely Tolliver and Harper discovering the fate of their sister Cameron and deciding what to do with their little sisters.

Part of the reason I enjoy this type of mystery--as opposed to police procedural mysteries--is that the people involved are personally involved with what's happening. Bad things (and good things!) happen to people they're intimately connected with, not just people they have a passing acquaintanceship with.

The only complaint I might have is that, with the exception of Lily Bard in the Shakespeare series, all of Harris' female protagonists seem to be exactly the same. They think the same, they act basically the same, and they talk the same. But I'm willing to put up with that for the great stories Harris spins.

I really liked this series. I loved the Sookie series too, but I just felt like Harper was more mature and down-to-earth than Sookie. I haven't read her other mystery series, but I do think she has a great way of tying up the loose ends and having (somewhat) plausible explanations for what's happened.
I'd recommend the "Undead" series by MaryJanice Davidson. It's similar style to the Sookie series but A LOT less serious and the main female character is hilarious.
